BAIT was formed in 2002 in order to raise with the Police and other Authorities, the community's concerns regarding crime and disorder within and around the Parish of Billingshurst. Membership is open to all who have such a concern giving them the opportunity to meet with the local police on a regular basis.

Membership comprises representatives from, amongst others, the Sussex Police, the Weald School, District and County Councils, Church groups within the Community, Billingshurst Community Partnership, Billingshurst Street Pastors, Local Action Teams (LATs), Billingshurst Residents, Local Businesses, Drug and Alcohol Action Team, WSCC Youth Services, Transport Operators and the Neighbourhood Watch.

There is no upper or lower limit, to the number of persons involved and all its meetings are open to any interested party. It enables the members to interface directly with the Police and other law enforcement entities.

The purpose of BAIT is to consider those crime and disorder problems that directly affect the wellbeing of the community of Billingshurst. The overall aim is to contribute towards a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour and improve the quality of life for all residents/business premises within Billingshurst.
